World Password Day

Today marks World Password Day — a timely reminder that your passwords are the first line of defence protecting your personal and financial information.

With increasing digital threats, taking a few simple steps can significantly reduce your risk of account compromise. Here’s how you can stay protected:

  • Use Strong and Unique Passwords: Create passwords that are at least 12 characters long and include a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using personal information such as names, birthdays, or common words.
  • Never Reuse Passwords Across Accounts: Using the same password on multiple platforms increases your exposure. If one account is compromised, others may be affected.
  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Wherever available, activate MFA. This adds an extra security layer by requiring a second form of verification.
  • Consider Using a Password Manager: Password managers can securely generate and store complex passwords, making it easier to maintain strong security without memorising multiple credentials.
  • Stay Alert to Phishing and Vishing Attempts: Be cautious of emails, messages, or calls requesting login details or personal information. These are often attempts to gain unauthorised access.
  • Act Quickly if You Suspect a Compromise: If you believe your credentials may have been exposed, change your password immediately and review your account activity.
