Specialist - Prevention of Financial Crimes Office

What are we looking for? 

The Bank is seeking to recruit a specialist within the Bank’s Prevention of Financial Crimes Office, which forms part of the Bank’s Compliance Department.

The Prevention of Financial Crimes Office is a source of knowledge for local and international legislation regarding various matters impacting the Bank’s operations in the field of the prevention of money laundering, the funding of terrorism and international sanctions, as well as keeping abreast with any developments on the matter. 

In addition, the Office is responsible to update the Bank’s policy and provide training in relation to the prevention of money laundering and funding of terrorism and sanctions monitoring.  The Office further ensures that staff members monitor customer accounts for any suspicious transactions, investigate internal suspicious transactions reports and report suspicious transactions to the Regulator.

You will be responsible to carry out a number of activities and tasks in relation to AML/CFT such as:

  • monitoring of transactions for suspicious activities,  drafting reports in relation to such transactions and assisting and guiding staff on AML and CFT matters;

  • managing requests to perform customer due diligence on high-risk clients and to recommend (or otherwise) action;

  • screening of payments against sanctions;

  • assisting, guiding and training staff on the prevention of money laundering and funding of terrorism particularly in relation to the Customer Due Diligence (CDD) processes; and

  • carrying out AML oversight testing.

Competencies and experience

Candidates must be reliable, trustworthy team players with unquestionable integrity. They must show an aptitude for learning, are capable to work in a dynamic environment and be meticulous and organised in their work.  Candidates must have possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have  good knowledge of MS Office applications. 

You must:

  • possess MQF Level 5 Qualification or higher in the prevention of money laundering and funding of terrorism or related subjects;

  • possess as at minimum, 2 years’ experience as a specialist in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combatting Terrorist Financing (CFT), preferably in a banking environment; and

  • have sound knowledge of EU AML Directives and related international standards.
