Banif Bank (Malta) plc would like to inform the general public that the email titled ‘Latest Update - INTRODUCING: New Secure Server’ which has been received by a number of people in Malta and Gozo, is a scam.

This electronic message is illegally portraying itself to be sent by Banif Bank (Malta) plc. It is asking the recipients of the email to click on the provided link to update their own security infrastructure to ensure that access to your accounts is private and secure. Banif would like to assure its customers that it does not use electronic mail with links or any software for immediate installation.

“We urge you to exercise caution if you receive an e-mail message asking you to access the Banif Bank (Malta) plc or any other banks’ website via a link. The Bank’s official internet banking site should only be accessed though the Bank’s official website at www.banif.com.mt and is protected using international security standards, ’’ commented a Bank representative from the IT Department.

Clients who may have provided their personal details in this scam are requested to contact any Banif Bank branch or call customer care on 2260 1000 immediately. Banif Bank took all the necessary precautions to safeguard the interest of their clients and filed a report with to the Cyber Crime Unit, who is investigating the matter.
