Earth Hour 2020 - Take part!

Once again, BNF Bank is joining forces with thousands of companies and individuals across the globe to celebrate the global environmental movement initiated by WWF, Earth Hour. With the aim of inspiring hope for the future, Earth Hour encourages us all to take one unified iconic action: switch off the lights! Following on tradition and in line with the Bank’s green initiatives, BNF will do its part and switch-off its ancillary lights across its branch network for 1 hour between 8:30p.m. and 9:30p.m. on Saturday 28th March.

This global initiative set out to help reduce our environmental footprint, urges all citizens worldwide to take part online or at home and unite to give a voice for the planet and stop the destruction of nature.

Although Earth Hour will be celebrated under exceptional circumstances due to the outbreak of COVID-19, there are many ways of how we can all be part of this movement.

With your support, Earth Hour 2020 could be a spotlight moment that puts nature at the centre of international conversations.  However, our actions matter all year-round!  Here are some useful tips to keep in mind.

ALL YEAR ROUND USEFUL TIPS

1.       Use free solar energy – open drapes and blinds during the day and make use of free solar heat to warm up your house.

2.      Your computer could use a nap – enable sleep mode in ‘’Power Options’’ after 30 minutes or less.

3.      Go digital – consider online platforms to share documents as an alternative to printing.

4.     Plug in your electronics into a smart power strip and turn it off when they are not in use.

5.      Plan your trip – cut down your CO2 emissions and commute to work by foot, bike or public transport.

6.      Help reduce your eco footprint – if your food is a bit too far past its ‘best before’ date, then make sure to compost it rather than dumping it in the bin. Not only will this action help create a natural fertiliser and keep your garden green, but it will also reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

7.      Conserve water by lowering your consumption of water.  Turn off those faucets when not in use.

8.      Switch off the lights when leaving the room or invest in motion sensors that are automated to go on or off according to your movement at home.

9.      Turn down the heat a notch - with Spring days around the corner, avoid using heaters.
