The President's Charity Fun Run 2011

“Undoubtedly, the Fun Run is the event which is closest to my heart. Through this event, we achieve two aims: promoting a healthy lifestyle through sport and having the nation unite for a noble cause,” commented President George Abela when addressing the press to launch the third consecutive edition of The President’s Charity Fun Run.

Mr. Joaquim F. Silva Pinto, Chief Executive Officer of Banif Bank (Malta) plc said that it is an honour for Banif to sponsor this event. Through this sponsorship, the Bank is lending a helping hand to the numerous individuals and organisations which are continuously supported by the Malta Community Chest Fund. Mr. Silva Pinto concluded by saying that this event never fails to attract a surprisingly increasing number of participants each year. Dr. Cassar, Minister for Health, Elderly and Community Care stated that it is vital that people follow a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and also claimed that during this event, the Maltese population is united for one common mission.

President Abela continued by saying that all applicants will receive a T-shirt, a bib and a certificate signed by the President himself which can be kept as a memento of one’s participation. President George Abela encouraged all those who are interested in participating in this event to start training regularly and reach a fitness level to cover the 7 kilometres from the San Anton Palace in Attard to The Palace in Valletta. President Abela thanked Banif Bank who has believed in this event since its inception. He also thanked Minister Joe Cassar who supports the Fun Run, as well as the Mayors of the local councils whose towns and villages are featured in the Fun Run map since they always manage to provide entertainment in their respective hometown.

The President’s Fun Run welcomes everyone from children to the elderly who can opt to walk a shorter distance with Mrs. Abela who will be leaving from St. Venera. The President’s Fun Run will be held on the 4th December and applications can be collected from any Banif branch, from the Malta Community chest fund offices which are situated at The Palace in Valletta and at The San Anton Palace, or online www.funrun.org.mt.
