Head of Unit

Duties & Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- managing a dynamic team, and the day-to-day operations, ensuring the smooth running of the Unit;
- ensuring tasks are compliant with policies and procedures of the Bank, whilst ensuring accurate and timely completion;
- ensuring credit agreements are legally correct and in line with approvals;
- overseeing the efficiency of the contracts process including pre-deed processing, contract representation, updating of searches and conservation of privileges;
- conduct thorough and meticulous reviews of documents submitted by the Bank’s vetting professionals;
- identify and assess potential risks and liabilities associated with the various activities of CVU and other areas or units impacting CVU’s work, providing insights and recommendations to mitigate those risks;
- collaborate with other departments and units to provide timely replies, issuance of credit agreements and publication of deeds;
- identify opportunities to streamline and optimize vetting processes, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all legal reviews;
- implementing and monitoring best practices that are issued from time to time;
- maintaining a good and healthy working relationship with all internal and external parties including the Bank’s and customers’ architects, other banks and notaries being strategic partners in the Unit’s activities; and
- any other duties which may be assigned by the Head of Department in the interest of the smooth running of the Unit and the Department.
Competencies & Experience
The potential candidate should also have a positive attitude, be well-organised, meticulous with a hands-on approach to work.
You must:
- have a tertiary level of education, with previous managerial experience working in a credit institution or notarial office;
- have good working knowledge of Maltese legislation in respect to credit and contract drafting;
- have excellent communication skills;
- demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Maltese with the ability to understand and communicate effectively using legal terminology;
- possess strong leadership and team management skills;
- uphold a professional attitude at all times;
- be decisive when taking actions based on established policies and procedures;
- be highly organised and meticulous in your work; and
- be flexible, highly committed and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
